Week 12: Henna Designs

January 9, 2010

The art of mehndi (applying henna paste to the skin) is a very old tradition thought to originate in India. In this class we will have a brief discussion of the Indian tradition surrounding henna, as well as how to prepare and apply the paste. We will then practice drawing many of the basic motifs used in traditional mehndi design (mango leaf, flowers, checkerboard, etc). And then decorate our own paper hands with our best work.

Supplies Needed:
paper, pencils, erasers, hand printouts, markers, motif examples, brief mehndi summary printouts (henna paste and accoutrement)
